Low fidelity is a feature, and we kept it

Balsamiq built a whole product on one sharp observation: polish invites the wrong feedback. Show a stakeholder a pixel-perfect mock and they will debate the shade of blue; show them something that looks like a marker sketch and they will debate the idea. That observation stays true, and Prototyper respects it. Boxes, stickies, and rough arrows are first-class citizens on the canvas, and nothing forces fidelity on you before you ask for it.

The difference is what the rough sketch is made of. On Prototyper it is not a drawing that resembles an interface; it is the first draft of one, sitting on the same surface where the working version will appear.

The cliff after the wireframe

Every wireframe tool has the same ending: the wireframe wins the argument, and then it is done. To go further, someone rebuilds the idea in a design tool, and later someone rebuilds that in code. The wireframe was the cheapest artifact in the chain and also the most disposable, which is why so many good ideas die between the sketch and the sprint.
